Puff

Soft ink letters for a made-up marshmallow shop: they drop, squash and pile up, and you can poke, grab and throw them.

The brief

Puff is a made-up brand: a concept by Risendune for a small-batch marshmallow shop, built to show type that behaves like the product. The letters are as soft as the sweets.

The approach

Each letter of PUFF is a soft body: a chain of particles that keeps its shape loosely, so it squashes when it lands and wobbles back.

  • The letters drop in, pile up and squeeze together when the window gets smaller.
  • Poke them with the cursor or a finger; grab one and throw it.
  • The film is the same simulation, driven by a scripted cursor and drawn frame by frame, so every render is identical.

Delivered

An 18-second film for X and the portfolio, a 5-second loop, and the live piece itself, one switch away.
