SKARN identity

Identity for SKARN, a made-up technical outerwear label: two plates meeting on a seam, in cobalt and chrome, from jacket print to keyring.

Start a project like this
  • The lockup: the Contact mark beside the SKARN wordmark, on cobalt and on ice.
  • The mark: two plates pressed together along one seam, slanted 10°, drawn on a 100-unit grid, and still clear at 16 px.
  • The palette: cobalt, deep navy, ice and steel, with chrome as the material that ties the merch together.
  • The type: Anybody, wide and heavy for the wordmark and headlines, regular for text, with JetBrains Mono for labels.
  • The merch: the shell's back in reflective print, and a glass-domed enamel keyring.
  • In motion: four moments from the SKARN reel.

The brief

SKARN is a concept: a made-up technical outerwear label, built to show how Risendune takes a brand from a first mark to merch and a moving reel. Skarn is the rock that forms where two others meet, and the identity is built on that idea.

The approach

  • The mark is two solid plates pressed together along a single diagonal seam, forming an S. It is one colour, slanted forward, and holds up as a 16 px icon and as a back print.
  • The wordmark is set in Anybody, wide and heavy, so it reads from across a street.
  • Cobalt carries the brand, with deep navy, ice and steel around it; chrome is the material, on the keyring and in the reel.
  • Every version of the mark, from the SVG files to the 3D models in the reel, is drawn from the same few numbers, so they can never drift apart.

Delivered

  • The mark, the wordmark and the lockup, on cobalt, navy and ice.
  • The palette and type system.
  • Merch: the shell’s reflective back print and the keyring medallion.
  • A 15-second brand reel, shown in its own project.
